March 25, 2024 – Dr. Tomoko Takano is a nephrologist at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a Professor of Medicine at McGill University, and a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of the MUHC. Her internationally recognized research focuses on the pathogenesis of proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome. She served as the Chair of the CSN Scientific Committee (2016-2020) and the Local Organizing Working Group for the WCN 2021 (Montreal). Dr. Takano is also a founder and co-lead of the Canadian Kidney Discovery Network (previously called M3K) and is a strong advocate for the role of discovery research in nephrology.

February 1, 2024 – Dr. Norman Rosenblum is Scientific Director of the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes at CIHR. He is also a professor of pediatrics, physiology, and laboratory medicine and pathobiology at the University of Toronto, and a pediatric nephrologist and senior scientist at the Research Institute of The Hospital for Sick Children. He is the recipient of a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Developmental Nephrology.

In this two part interview, Dr. Rosenblum talks to our host about national priorities for accelerating discovery, pursuing health equity and building capacity for fundamental/translational research in Canada.

About our Host
Waleed Rahmani is a fifth year nephrology resident at the University of Calgary. In 2016, he completed his PhD in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, focusing on how cutaneous stem cells and macrophages promote skin regeneration. Next up for Waleed is a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Dr. Benjamin Humphrey for the summer of 2024.
